Retailer Bergdorf Goodman and digital footwear shopping destination GOAT will be joining forces to produce a physical sneaker installation during New York Fashion Week. Starting next Wednesday August 21, the exhibit will be held in Bergdorf’s men’s store and will focus on rare sneakers with outrageous price tags.

Since the show is hosted by two retailers, it will naturally double as a store where visitors are able to shop the models on display. “With this exclusive partnership, we hope to provide an elevated shopping experience for Bergdorf Goodman’s clientele, where they can experience in person some of the rarest and most coveted sneakers in the world,” Bruce Pask, men’s fashion director told WWD. To set the scene, it has been confirmed that two pairs featured will be the Chanel x Pharrell adidas NMD Human Race Trails ($16,400 USD) and the Back to the Future Air Mags ($47,250 USD).

Both companies seem to agree when it comes to the current importance of sneakers in luxury fashion, and they hope to amplify the trend by merging their different business models together in one space. “Retail and resale are just at the beginning of their convergence, and as the global demand for streetwear increases, we will continue to see its influence in the luxury market,” says Daishin Sugano, Cofounder of GOAT Group. “Collaborating with Bergdorf Goodman exemplifies the endless possibilities in the industry.”

This news comes following the release of a new consignment consumer report, which further validates streetwear’s place in the luxury fashion market.
