adidas Originals' Latest Stan Smith Swaps Laces for Buckles
A minimalist take on the classic.

This has been a good work for unconventional sneaker closure, with Alexander Lee Chang magnetizing a pair of Vans and adidas elevating the classic Stan Smith with dual buckles. The shoe drops the familiar lace-up vamp for a much sleeker strap-and-buckle set-up, not unlike a pair of double monk strap shoes.
Sporting smooth leather and its classic rubber outsole, the new Stan Smith is, if anything, equally as minimalist as its original iteration, with laces replaced by two pale gold buckles and white straps that keep the slim sheet of leather on its upper in place. A tonal leather heel panel keeps the shoe understated, complete with a slightly lower tongue that boasts white adidas imagery to match the base hue. The sneaker’s conventional branding is still embossed on the rear but otherwise remains free from overt branding.
Expect the womens-only Stan Smith Buckle sneakers to drop September 1 via adidas’ site for $120 USD.
Elsewhere, adidas remixed the ZX 4000 4D with “Easy Mint.”
