Omega Sapien's Visual for "POP THE TAG" Explores a Harsher Side of Youth
The South Korean rapper continues with his exploratory vision of hip-hop.
While much of the globe is enduring the global phenomenon of K-Pop artists like BTS or BLACKPINK, promulgated by top tier labels orchestrating a perfectly-crafted pop music facade, Korean grassroots cultural inhibitors are relishing in newfound pursuits and experimentation of sound. One of these notable artists is Omega “Green Godzilla” Sapien of fast-rising collective Balming Tiger, a group that has presented an alternative vision of hip-hop that remains staunchly seated in experimentation. In his new audiovisual for “POP THE TAG,” Omega Sapien continues with this inventive take on the genre, providing an adrenaline-packed visual alongside the house-heavy track.
Produced by l33suho, the new track takes on a darker, clubbier aspect that relays distorted electronic music sensibilities. Sapien raps effortlessly in his idiosyncratic style over the cut, slinging fire-tinged verses that depict “the deviation of young people in a harsh world.” This is reflected in the music video itself, with a ragtag crew of youth going from stealing goods in a local convenience store, to violently breaking into a store late at night.
