New Balance is launching its latest technological innovation: a 3D printed platform which delivers exceptional performance cushioning. The initiative began back in 2017 when the brand first started partnering with Formlabs — the leading 3D printing experts based in Massachusetts — on an exclusive relationship to create high performance materials, hardware, and manufacturing processes for competitive athletic footwear. The co-developed technology, named TripleCell, will make its debut in two different upcoming releases: a 990 Sport and the FuelCell Echo.

“TripleCell will deliver the industry’s pinnacle expression of data to design with seamless transitions between variable properties underfoot”, says Katherine Petrecca, New Balance General Manager, Innovation Design Studio. “This new, cutting edge, digitally manufactured technology is now scaling exclusively within New Balance factories in the U.S. further establishing us as a leader in 3D printing and domestic manufacturing. Formlabs has been an integral partner to bring this to life. We’re really going to be able to disrupt the industry not only in performance, but also in athlete customization and speed to market.”

The Made in USA 990 Sport with TripleCell technology will launch June 28, while the FuelCell Echo will be available on September 15, for price tags of $185 USD and $175 USD respectively.
