MIKE Shares New 'tears of joy' Album & Video for 'PLANET"

Back in March, MIKE revisited his 2018 project War In My Pen for his latest visual, teaming up with Matter Research for the official music video in support of “Rottweiler.” Now, for War In My Pen‘s full-length follow-up, the young New York City emcee is serving up a new album titled tears of joy.

Comprised of 19 new tracks, MIKE’s tears of joy LP places the talented lyricist’s bars on top of beats from Sporting Life, Adé Hakim, DJ Blackpower (MIKE’s producer moniker), Navy Blue, RedLee, Michul Kuun, Ted Kamal and others, with one lone feature coming courtesy of duendita. Further promoting this release, MIKE is also sharing a Conor Prunty-directed visual for the Adé Hakim-produced tears of joy standout “PLANET.”

“I remember I was blinded, I can see now / Lot of n***as love to talk, never be ’bout it / In September, we was flying overseas proud / Gotta give it to above, why we keep shouting / Watching cheddar made these n***as never speak out / Drop a bigot, as for us, can’t keep out,” MIKE raps during the beginning of his “PLANET” verse. “I can give you to a buck, but you keep clowning / You gon’ end up like the ones that he keep ’round him / Coming to it, I’ma jump over steep climbs / Can’t be walking with a front just to sleep frowning / We was sleepless for some months, only brief outings / Gave me everything I want, tryna give it back / Pray for baby, out to lunch, I’ma reach mountains.”

For those hoping to hear some of these records in-person, MIKE will be performing at Chicago’s Pitchfork Festival on July 19, Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party on July 21 and New York City’s MoMA PS1 Warm Up on August 17; additional live dates are also in the works.
