Adrienne Raquel Is Making Photography More Inclusive
Crowned as the Ambassador of Aesthetics for Reebok’s Club C.
Photographer and art director Adrienne Raquel is no stranger to making opportunities for herself. Entering a professional landscape that has been criticized for its lack of female inclusion, the New York-based creative mobilized to be the narrative that didn’t yet exist. After finding a passion for the art form in college, Raquel made it her goal to beautifully portray women of color in a positive manner through her work. And as a black woman herself, her intention was to reposition the articulation of the female gaze away from the male-dominated arena. Now, her impressive portfolio is a testament to her distinct point of view.
Conceptually, as an artist, Raquel is no like other in her class. Her corpus features a collection of evocative works that elicit playful, vibrant and nostalgic aesthetics. The portraiture and still lifes flirt soft colors and landscapes around the subject, subverting how a viewer typically views them. With every opportunity, she aims to amplify the voices of women by offering them a new platform that presents them in a different light. Her proclivity to actively create a more inclusive space is the reason she’s the latest inductee into Reebok‘s Club C initiative, a collective of like-minded creatives who are defying the status quo. As the Ambassador of Aesthetics, Raquel brings an artful voice to an industry needing to provide more space for creators like her.
