TAG Heuer Celebrates 50 Years of the Monaco Grand Prix With Commemorative Watch Series
The iconic design hits its half-century.
Watchmaker TAG Heuer has revealed its latest luxury timepiece in the form of a 50th Anniversary edition of the Monaco.
The TAG Heuer Monaco, which first released back in 1969, left lasting impressions in the watch world with its advancements in design — the Monaco was the first ever water-resistant watch with a square chassis, while also featuring automatic-winding chronograph movement. In 2011, the Monaco Grand Prix made TAG Heuer the official watch of the race, solidifying the Monaco namesake and ushering the model into the history books of luxury watches. The 2019 50th anniversary will continue this legacy with five separate editions, each commemorating a decade of its history.
The Monaco arrives with TAG Heuer’s Automatic Calibre 11 movement within the 39mm diameter case in stainless steel. Pictured above as the 1970’s edition, the dial is offered in Green with Côtes de Genève finishing, with gold plated counters as well as brown and yellow touches on its hands and indexes for an air of refinement. Sapphire crystal makes the watch resilient and durable, while the polished steel crown at 9 o’clock and push buttons at 2 and 4 o’clock provide the timepiece with functionality required by its owner for chronometer use. Further, the steel caseback proudly denotes “1969-1979 Special Edition” and “One of 169” engravings. Lastly, the watch is secured with a brown calfskin leather strap with a polished stainless steel clasp for a secure fit.
