As has become tradition, HUF is honoring the legacy of late skateboarder Dylan Rieder with another limited reissue of his signature Driver Shoe. Just in time for what would have been Rieder’s 31st birthday on May 26, the sleek silhouette swaps its pony hair upper for full-grain metallic leather.
Though Keith Hufnagel recently affirmed that his label will no longer be making in-house skating footwear, he did leave the door open for one-off creations, like the Dylan shoe. Only 150 pairs of the special Driver shoes will be on hand, each crafted by hand in America.
A brilliant metallic full-grain leather adorns the upper, straying from the shoe’s more understated original form. Lambskin lining ensures a comfortable fit that conforms to the wearer’s foot, while an EVA midsole promises all-day comfort and a Vibram outsole grants anti-slip protection. “HUF” branding is subtly debossed atop the shoe, while the sockliner and insole sport Dylan’s insignia and a custom inscription in gold foil.
HUF will launch the limited shoes on the HUF website May 28, two days after they release in-store at HUF’s global outposts. The Rieder family will receive a portion of the proceeds from the $250 USD shoe. May 24, HUF will host a photo show in Los Angeles in honor of Rieder, showcasing the dearly-missed skater in a variety of portraits. The photos will then be auctioned off to benefit City of Hope Treatment Center — learn more via the event’s RSVP page
