Nike's "On Air" Collection Leads the Pack in This Week's Footwear Drops

Another week, another seven days of footwear drops. For those who haven’t marked their calendars just yet, some of the biggest releases to occur are Nike‘s highly-anticipated “On Air” collection, featuring six different designs from talented folks around the world paying homage to their hometowns. Also following in suit is adidas Originals with its globe-spanning “Nite Jogger City Pack” repping the bustling metropolises of London, Paris, Shanghai, New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo.

The week also sees the release of a “Faux Skin” collection, the latest joint effort between Tyler, The Creator’s brainchild Golf Wang and Converse, along with Pyer Moss and Reebok‘s previously teased “Mobius Experiment 3” basketball-inspired sneaker. Nike once again offers up some stealthy options for its Epic React Flyknit 2 and Shox R4 models, while more collaborative sneakers from have a good time x Reebok, along with Overkill and adidas Consortium also find their way onto this week’s list. Having found a home in practically every sneakerhead’s footwear collection, BAPE‘s coveted BAPESTA silhouette returns for the Spring/Summer 2019 season in a trio of bold colorways. Included in the lineup is an Italian flag-inspired look seeing red, white and green dressing the model; a Knicks-inspired iteration featuring orange and blue hits on the toe cap and STA motif; and lastly an icy blue, grey and brown alternative exists for those looking for a more vibrant take.

David Bowie x Vans Collaboration

Vans pays homage to legendary artist David Bowie on a capsule that encompasses his life as “the man who fell to Earth.” The range includes Vans’ Slip-On 47 V DX, Era, Old Skool, and Sk8-Hi models, all of which have been used to reference Bowie’s most famous works, such as Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, and Aladdin Sane. Various materials have been used to construct the different options such as patent and calfskin leather, canvas and much more. The Vans sneaker collection is also complemented with an apparel line.

Tyler, The Creator’s Golf Wang has once again teamed up with Converse for a special “Faux Skin” collection. The new collaborative silhouettes are dressed in textured leather that take on the same appearance of an alligator’s skin. Three colorways will be available, including beige, lime green and black, each matched with a stark white midsole and laces. Gold embroidered GOLF le FLEUR* x Converse logos are placed on the tongue tabs for an added touch.

Nike‘s popular Epic React Flyknit 2 sees a stealthy new outfit of “Blue Fury” and “Bright Crimson” for this week’s releases. Dressed in almost a full black outfit, hits of “Blue Fury” can be found on the toe and heel portion of the outsole as well as on the lower heel clip, while “Bright Crimson” takes on the mini Swoosh insignias and “RUN,” “BLN” and “SPAT” branding found on the left and right heel tab and bottom sole.

Having already teamed up on the Club C and Classic Leather, have a good time and Reebok once again join forces on the latter’s Aztrek model. The silhouette’s demure tones of grey and white are contrasted with have a good time’s bold red graphic on the right tongue tab, while red “Reebok” branding is incorporated on the left. The labels are once again found mismatched on the lateral portion of each respective sneaker. Finally the midsole mixes black and white adding to the overall understated vibe of this collaborative model.

Pyer Moss x Reebok “Mobius Experiment 3”

Creative collective Pyer Moss has teamed up with OG sportswear legend Reebok on a special collaborative capsule. Featured within this joint effort is a play on Reebok’s Mobius basketball sneaker, now dubbed the “Mobius Experiment 3,” which keeps certain design cues from the former such as a high cut angle and eye-catching zigzag-wave construction for its upper. Crafted from premium suede and nubuck leathers, neoprene has been added to the liner, while an asymmetric zipper and stability pods add a final bit of eclecticism. The collaborative silhouette will also be releasing alongside an apparel collection.

adidas Originals Nite Jogger “Jet Set”

Originally introduced at the end of March, the adidas Originals Nite Jogger “Jet Set” returns this week seeing as the remaining two models of London and Paris are set to hit retailers come April 11. Comprised of six different iterations, each pair was created to represent the populous cities of Los Angeles, London, Shanghai, New York, Tokyo and Paris. Barcode luggage tags boasting their respective locales decorate each tongue tab as well as the vamp; London is colored in red while Paris is colored in blue. Elsewhere the majority of the shoe’s construction is crafted from black mesh, suede and nylon while reflective hits have been added to the sides of the toe and heel portions. White BOOST midsoles and matching city-specific outsoles wrap up the overall outfit.

Nike 2019 “On Air” Collection

The six winning designs from Nike‘s “On Air” contest are finally up for grabs. To refresh your memory, the six city-inspired silhouettes include: the airy Air Max 97 “Shanghai Kaleidoscope” designed by Cash Ru; the vibrant Air Max 97 “London Summer of Love” by Jasmine Lasode; the graphic-heavy Nike Air Max 1 “Tokyo Maze” by Yuta Takuman; the neon-injected Nike Air Max 97 “Neon Seoul” by Gwang Shin; the “La Mezcla”-inspired Air Max 98 NYC by Gabrielle Serrano; and finally the tonal looking Nike Air VaporMax Plus Paris by Lou Matheron.

Nike Shox R4 “Triple Black”

This week sees the resurgence of Nike’s Shox R4 silhouette. Murdered out in a fan favorite “Triple Black” colorway, the nostalgic sneaker keeps its signature Shox cushioning while adding a bit of luxe with hits leather construction. A final hit of white branding can be found on the tongue tabs.

Overkill x adidas Consortium ZX10000C

Following their already impressive collaborative lineup, German mainstays Overkill and adidas have once again cooked up another worthy pair of ZX10000C. Inspired by gaming of the 1990s, the shoe’s color palette features muted tones compared to previous releases, seeing the majority of its upper dressed in tones of grey, while hits of magenta and blue are strewn about its mesh, suede and terrycloth construction. Finally a subtle white midsole rounds out the look.
