TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist. Launches SS19 Grunge-Printed Gear
Featuring Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love, Soundgarden and more.

TAKAHIROMIYASHITA TheSoloist.‘s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, which boasts the catchy title of “SONG #2 (temporary) Written by: (Oscar / Takahiro),” saw designer Takahiro Miyashita reuniting with famed grunge photographer Charles Peterson for more graphic goods. Miyashita and Peterson have worked together since Miyashita oversaw his high-concept NUMBER (N)INE label, but there’s no end to Miyashita’s earnest adoration of the Seattle music scene that Peterson so deftly captured on film.
Encompassing a wide array of layering pieces, the clothes are mostly executed in monochrome hues so as to emphasize Peterson’s atmospheric images. Waffle-knit long-sleeved shirts and turtlenecks sport various black-and-white photos along with text like The Grunge Years, a nod to the seminal Sub-Pop anthology album, and Screaming Life, the name of one of Soundgarden’s best-known LPs.
A substantial helmet jacket is the crown jewel of the release, every inch of the militaristic garment emblazoned with blown-up photos of Kurt Cobain. The blown-up motif carries over to a red holster bag, also featuring Kurt’s visage, while a pair of vibrant neckwarmers juxtapose Cobain’s image with that of his wife, Courtney Love.
