Meguru Yamaguchi, Joshua Vides & FAUST Present Dynamic Works at Japan's Largest Art Fair

Large-scale paintings, immersive installation, and more at SEIBU•SOGO’s booth.

Following previous presentations on MADSAKI and Haroshi, major Japanese retailer SEIBU•SOGO continues to be a leading purveyor of contemporary art pieces with its latest presentation at Art Fair Tokyo 2019. Entitled “Art meets Life,” the sizable booth features new large-scale paintings by NYC-based artists Meguru Yamaguchi and FAUST. In addition, an immersive installation by LA-based artist Joshua Vides entitled Seize to Exist is also on display at SEIBU’s space which is the largest of all exhibitors at Japan’s biggest art festival.

Yamaguchi’s signature sculptural paintings of brushstrokes are portrayed in a curvaceous new technique with nine total on display at the booth. For FAUST, the text-based specialist showcases a monumental quadtych comprised of four 4 x 5 feet paintings. The elusive artist’s signature hand-style, alongside urban aesthetics representative of his prolific graffiti background, are masterfully presented on the acrylic on canvas pieces with the phrase “Petals on a wet black bough” in silver paint — a quote from the 1913 Ezra Pound poem In a Station of the Metro.

Lastly, the rising LA-based artist Joshua Vides takes up three walls at the booth to create a mind-bending new installation entitled Seize to Exist. Vides showcases five pyramid-like sculptures (six-foot tall each) embellished with his ubiquitous black and white sketch motif. Two canvas paintings are also mounted onto the center wall with reflective vinyl wrapping adjacent walls to create an infinity-mirror presentation.

Head over to Art Fair Tokyo’s website to learn more. The festival is on view until March 10.
