After partnering last summer on a soccer-centric collection, Danish brand hummel and New York-based designer Willy Chavarria have teamed again for round two. For Spring/Summer 2019, the duo presents a line of sportswear that pays homage to U.S. immigrants, taking further inspiration from soccer players for the co-branded collection.
Deemed 5683 – the numeric form of the word ”love” on a keypad — the assortment includes oversized jerseys in short-sleeved and sleeveless silhouettes, athletic shorts and throwback tracksuits. A nylon jacket and quilted bomber, both in extended lengths, provide sleek outerwear options. While much of the range is grounded in black and white, bursts of orange, purple and red brighten up the color scheme.
To emphasize the collaboration’s theme of soccer as a global connection point, hummel has sponsored the Rooklyn International Football Association (RIFA), a group of documented and undocumented U.S. citizens, who are also the stars of the campaign.
The WILLY CHAVARRIA x hummel SS19 range officially launched January 31 at SHINZO Paris, retailing from €70 EUR (~$80 USD) to €220 EUR (~$250 USD).
