The World’s Monuments Fund has just announced the plans to open a new section in Beijing‘s Forbidden City to the public. With the help of Selldorf Architects, the Qianlong Garden will be restored along with a special visitor’s center.

Originally built between the years 1771 and 1776, the private Qianlong Garden was used as a retreat by the fourth emperor of the Qing Dynasty, and was intended to be used as a retirement complex for the emperor after his 60-year reign.

The restoration project is sure to please historians and tourists, as it will not only offer a rare look at one of the most extravagant dynasties from imperial China but also because the area has never been open to the public. Those looking to see the historic site can expect it to be open in 2020 — in time for the Forbidden City’s 600th anniversary.

In other design news, Swarovski’s new headquarters is centered around a crystalline design.
