Though BAPE can boast countless fans across the globe, the Japanese label actually isn’t stocked in a wide range of countries, due in part to its “really selective distribution,” Riccardo Tortato recently told WWD. “Bape’s management selects one-by-one every single retail account based on the brand assortment and customer demographics.”
Tortato, the fashion director for menswear and e-commerce at Moscow’s Tsum department store, has accomplished the enviable achievement of becoming the first dedicated Russian BAPE stockist. Tsum is commemorating the occasion with a special pop-up shop, placing the Japanese imprint at the forefront of the shopping center, complete with window displays and a camo-covered Bentley.
“I can feel that Bape today is at its peak,” Tortato continued. “Everyone wants it. I was even more convinced when I started seeing the famous Bape shark hoodie here in Moscow, and I am sure that Bape will outperform when our client will have the access to it.”
Most recently, we went inside BAPE & adidas’ pre-Super Bowl Atlanta pop-up.

…….When almost 5 years ago coming from NYC I started to work at @tsum_moscow I wanted to give the opportunity to all russian’s clients to shop in Tsum all those cool products that they could find only traveling around the world. I started bringing brands like @off____white @yeezyboosts @nikelab @commedesgarcons @palmangels and many more. It’s a team work made with a group of really enthusiastic people. Tomorrow a new exciting brand will be presented in Tsum. Before now to get a Bape’s hoody Russian’s clients would have to shop in Paris, New York or London but now they can just go to @tsum_moscow and get it one. Please let’s think that behind that hoody or that T-shirt there are so many people that worked for one year to bring it from Tokyo to Moscow. It is a small project but really challenging because you can count in two hands the retails in the world that can sell this brand. So what a better opportunity to thanks who worked at this project @antoniomaione @okutina @anyafateeva @vissarion @maria.a.sotnikova @s_loiter @anuf_ma @traveller.now and all the other people that work everyday in and outside Tsum? ❤️❤️❤️ (A special thanks goes to Lev that started so many years ago the man business in Tsum. Without him probably nothing would exist now. Another special thanks goes to Andreas that supported from the beginning this my idea. From deep of my hart…thank you??) #rtstyle #bape #tsummoscow #sharingiscaring
