Nike Spotlights Virgil van Dijk's Rise in Becoming One of the Best Football Players in the World
“I was born in Breda, but it’s the things I’ve overcome on my journey from there that have made me the player I am today.”
Nike has just shared its latest short documentary titled Birthplace of Dreams, which spotlights the rise of footballer Virgil van Dijk.
In the short clip posted above, the Swoosh speaks with van Dijk who outlines his trials and tribulations on becoming one of the best football players in the world. Catching up with the Holland captain and Liverpool defender in Breda, the football star opens up about his early days from almost being sent away from the academy and sitting on the bench most of the time to how he overcame these defeats. He also shares how he dreamed of one day playing for the Premier League.
The visuals also spotlight van Dijk visiting his earlier clubs and the youth teams, as well as that ludicrous price tag on route to becoming captain of the KNVB and champion of Europe in his prime. “I was born in Breda, but it’s the things I’ve overcome on my journey from there that have made me the player I am today,” van Dijk states.
