Sneakerness and #tide Team up for "Lacelet" Kit Made of 100% Recycled Ocean Material
A sustainable and stylish way to accent your favorite sneakers.

With efforts like adidas‘s Futurecraft Loop project and Kanye West‘s recycled algae YEEZY CLOG, the sneaker industry is attempting to move towards a more sustainable future, and now Swiss company #tide has presented a “Lacelet” kit made of 100% recycled ocean material. Created in conjunction with Swiss sneaker convention Sneakerness, the unique shoelaces and bracelet are a sustainable and stylish way for consumers to accent their favorite footwear.
Both the laces and bracelet are made up of plastics pulled from the oceans and coastlines in Southeast Asia and the Caribbean. The raw material was ground down and transformed into granules and yarns, which was then reconstructed into the sturdy products presented here. Even the recycling process was focused on sustainability, as its energy was provided by solar power. The two-tone color scheme is a dual-pronged nod to the collaborative parties: Sneakerness’s signature black is used for the yarns, while #tide’s rich ocean green supplies the accents.
The Sneakerness x #tide “Lacelet” kit is set to roll out in the spring of 2020, complete with a MSRP of $25 USD. It’s available for pre-order at tide.earth now.
Sustainability remains a hot topic in the industries of fashion and footwear; most recently, Heron Preston and HP introduced their vision of fully compostable and sustainable packaging.
