INVINCIBLE & The North Face Link up for Exclusive Capsule: "THE EXPEDITION"
Inspired by a 1987 photo of “Snowbird Everest Expedition.”
Following THE NORTH FACE PURPLE LABEL’s SS20 lookbook, The North Face has returned with its latest endeavor, a concise set of exclusives made in collaboration with the creative minds of INVINCIBLE. Featured are three of The North Face’s iconic silhouettes: the Denali, Mountain and Nuptse Jacket.
Tieing together the designs of all three pieces, the idea for the capsule came from a photograph from 1987 of “Snowbird Everest Expedition,” where Sally McCoy, who happened to be TNF’s Director of Equipment, made plans to become the first American woman to climb the peak, though it never happened due to harsh weather. Each piece has been emblazoned with the image of a snowy base camp rendered in soft retro palettes.
First up is the Denali jacket, coming with rich black fleece textiles and a sleek nylon upper shell. Below its raised collars are two VISLON zipper pockets placed at the front chest panels. As a finishing note, underarm gussets with pit-zip venting have been added for extra protection against strong winds while optimizing breathability. The next piece is the Nuptse jacket, padded with 700-Fill goose down insulation. “The North Face” branding is stamped in white over the left shoulder just under the black upper collars and yoke, while large zipper pockets appear at the sides. The last piece in the capsule is the Mountain jacket. Equipped with technical waterproof and heat-retaining materials, silk-taffeta and brushed tricot drop-lining have been added to the piece for extra breathability and warmth. Rounding up the details, the jacket sees a double-layer exterior shell with windproof support for cold-weather climates.
The exclusive capsule is will be available at a pop-up in Shanghai (December 23, 2019 – January 5, 2020) as well as one in Taipei (December 27, 2019 – January 5, 2020). From December 31, 2019, the capsule will be available at The North Face Urban Exploration stores in Hong Kong, Taipei and Beijing.
Elsewhere, Cactus Plant Flea Market and HUMAN MADE have collaborated on a set of lifestyle goods.
