After immortalizing Star Wars with a watch collection inspired by the film’s most iconic characters, watchmaker Citizen returns with a limited edition model of the Asia Limited NY009. The new NY0097-87A celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Promaster series — a collection of professional-grade sports watches that offer the highest levels of functionality and endurance for air, land and sea.
Since 1989, the original Promaster NY004 series has drawn those who appreciate robust build quality and diver level water resistance to the affordable, yet sophisticated, timepieces. Fans have nicknamed the watch with the Japanese term “fugu,” or “pufferfish,” due to the shape of the bezel. The sharp edges were initially designed to give the user a positive grip when turning it under wet conditions.
Citizen followed up last year’s NY008 release with the NY009 series, offering the beloved timepiece in a new range of colors and with a stainless steel bracelet. While divers’ watches usually come with a black dial, the NY0097-87A boasts an eye-catching white dial with a contrasting red bezel — the same shade that has been used in the Promaster logo since it was introduced 30 years ago.
Available in a limited edition quantity of 888, Citizen’s new NY0097-87A watch will be available at select stores in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Thailand.
