Spike Lee to Direct 'Prince of Cats' Movie Adaptation
With Lakeith Stanfield taking on the lead role.

Spike Lee is set to direct a movie adaptation of Prince of Cats, based on Ron Wimberly’s graphic novel published in 2012. The Oscar-winning director and Legendary Entertainment will be developing the project alongside Janet and Kate Zucker of Zucker Productions. Lee will also re-write the script with Wimberly himself and screenwriter Selwyn Seyfu Hinds.
Set in 1980s New York in Da People’s Republic of Brooklyn, Prince of Cats is a re-telling of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet through the eyes of Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, who will be played by Lakeith Stanfield.
Lee is currently in post-production on the thriller Da 5 Bloods with Chadwick Boseman, Paul Walter Hauser and Jonathan Majors, while Stanfield is prepping for the release of Knives Out and Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Andy Serkis will be playing the role of Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
