In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Nike N7 has teamed up with Pendleton for a history-packed capsule collection that’s centered around traditional Navajo storm prints. Lead designer Tracie Jackson created the collection’s central pattern in honor of her great-grandmother Phoebe Nez, a member of the Black Streaked Wood People clan of the Navajo Nation and an accomplished traditional weaver who taught a young Jackson the art of rug-making.

The offerings are based around a quintet of Nike and Jordan Brand footwear silhouettes, including the Air Force 1 Low, Air Jordan 8, Air Zoom Pegasus 36, Zoom Heritage and Air Moc. All five feature Pendleton fabric accents and use the collection’s storm print as a recurring motif. These are accompanied by a matching apparel collection and a full-size Pendleton N7 blanket, back for the first time since 2013. The warm-yet-grounded color scheme used on each piece is inspired by natural dyes that are local to the Navajo people. Simultaneously, the pattern acknowledges both Navajo heritage and the natural world — the former by the diamond graphic in the center, the latter by the zigzagging graphics and corner squares.

The collection is a full-circle moment for Jackson, who stated “Without my great-grandmother, I wouldn’t have learned about my culture, and without my culture, I wouldn’t have been a designer. My family ties are what influence my native identity.”

The Pendleton x Nike N7 collection will release on November 7 via Nike.com and select retailers. Prices have yet to be announced.

Elsewhere in the world of footwear, Aimé Leon Dore continues to tease its upcoming New Balance collaboration.
