Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg Are Developing a World War II Drama for Apple TV+
It will serve as a thematic follow-up to ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘The Pacific.’
Hollywood giants Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks will join forces with Apple TV+ and Apple‘s new production studio for a World War II drama series called Masters of the Air.
The series will serve as a thematic and spiritual successor to the pair’s other works, HBO‘s Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Masters of the Air is based on the Donald L. Miller book, Masters Of The Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought The Air War Against Nazi Germany, which was originally developed as a miniseries by HBO.
As the book’s title suggests, the Apple TV+ series will focus on the Eighth Air Force established in 1944. According to Deadline, the series is expected to have an eight hour run time and will cost somewhere around $200 million USD to produce. The final season of Game of Thrones was notoriously known for its $90 million USD budget, which Masters of the Air dwarfs in comparison.
Although it’s unknown when Masters of the Air is scheduled to premiere, Apple TV+ is scheduled to launch on November 1.
