Seiko 5 Sports Relaunches With an Immersive Party in Tokyo
Dissecting innovation.
Seiko celebrates the relaunch of the Seiko 5 Sports collection with an exclusive by-invite only party at the Hotel Koe in Tokyo. The ‘Seiko 5 Sports Show Your Style’ Party consisted of musical performances by DJs YonYon and Yuna Yabe, Japanese band SIRUP, and a demo by pro skaters Kento Yoshioka, Shor West and Yudai Hoshino.
The event immersed visitors in a unique experience unifying street culture and Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking heritage, with a digital installation portraying robotic futuristic imagery reminiscent of the mechanics of Seiko 5 Sports watches. The relaunch event also provided an insightful panel between the product planner and designer of Seiko 5 Sports, where they discussed in details of the watches and the meaning of the new logo.
Seiko 5 Sports has its roots in the iconic Seiko Sportsmatic 5 first released in 1963. The watch line gets its “5” from having five key attributes: a day/date window, an automatic movement, water-resistance, a durable case and bracelet, and a crown at the 4 o’clock position.
