Towards the beginning of summer, Jim Jones unleashed his latest solo album, El Capo. Comprised of 16 tracks, the Dipset veteran’s recent full-length served as the follow-up to 2017’s Wasted Talent LP and featured guest contributions from fellow Diplomats icon Cam’ron, Curren$y, Jddakiss, Dave East, Fat Joe, Conway, Benny the Butcher and more. Continuing to support the aforementioned studio project, Jim Jones is reconnecting with Rick Ross and Marc Schibilia for a new visual in support of their Heatmakerz-produced El Capo record “State of the Union.” Notably, the clip for “State of the Union” was filmed in Miami, New York City and The Bahamas, with Shula the Don serving as its director.
“I gotta stay relevant. Nobody trying to be out here looking old like yesterday,” Jim Jones shared with Billboard during a 2018 interview. “You trying to look like you new in here and ready for tomorrow. You gotta find that thin line of maintaining who you are without sacrificing your dignity and staying in the wave the kids got going on. The way the music is going you gotta be in the loop. You can’t do what you did yesterday if you want to get busy tomorrow. “
“I’m content with the body of work I’ve created,” Jones added. “In rap, we talk about the same different shit in a million different ways. It’s all about wordplay. I feel like my wordplay has gotten up to par. At this point, when it comes to doing music, I don’t really think there’s too many n***as that could fuck with me. I don’t really get my kudos like that.”
