In 2000, Nike bravely experimented with the latest in footwear technology by releasing its first Shox-based shoe. While the risk was notable, the aura of excitement surrounding the unique sneaker was a major success considering its release ahead of the 2000 Summer Olympics. Nike fans and sneakerheads alike were energized by the turn of the millennium – new technology and futuristic-looking products ultimately drove the Shox’ early success, becoming a major installment in the Portland-based brand’s footwear lineup.

With Nike’s recent foray into nostalgic sneakers for the current generation of consumers, it’s only right that the first Shox silhouette, the Shox R4, is making a return to the market. Last Fall we saw the re-release of the “Metallic Silver/Comet Red” iteration, and now we’ve received the first official look of the upcoming “Triple Black” colorway.

Surely to have fans of the Shox springing to their toes, the new shoe is doused in a monochrome black upper, donning a small but noticeable navy hit at the rear. The Nike Shox R4 “Triple Black” lands at Nike retailers and Nike’s web store for $160 USD on April 13.

For more footwear news, the sacai x Nike collaboration has a potential release date.
