A Backstage Look at Fashion East’s FW19 Showcase

Fashion East has become one of the stand-out shows on the London Fashion Week: Men’s schedule due to the emerging talents showcased each season. For Fall/Winter 2019 it was no different, as the likes of Kim Jones and Skepta came to take an early look at the next generation of London-based talent.
The first designer to show their collection was Robyn Lynch, who was recently spotlighted as one of our ones to watch. Lynch’s Fall/Winter 2019 show took inspiration from her Irish heritage, with specific influences including her father as well as archive footage of the Dublin Games. The collection — refreshing for its wearability — came in block colors, with blue looks followed by white and green.
Next up was Mowalola, a 2017 graduate of Central Saint Martins. Mowalola’s show was built around the theme of “exposure” with the show notes describing it as exploring “the total freedom revealed by baring all.” Arguably the stand-out items in the collection were nappa trench coats, adorned with painted reproductions of Lea Colombo’s nude portraits.
While Robyn Lynch and Mowalola were making their Fashion East debuts, Stefan Cooke and Jake Burt presented their third and final collection under the umbrella. Fall/Winter 2019 built on themes from previous Stefan Cooke collections including the use of subverted craft and the brand’s roots in thrifting. Themes throughout the collection include lace, vintage doilies and tassels as well as outerwear that splits as it moves and armor-influenced tailoring.
