Billie Eilish Collaborates With Takashi Murakami for 'GARAGE MAGAZINE'
A sci-fi reinterpretation of Murakami’s self-portrait ‘Split’.
Billie Eilish is full of announcements recently, revealing her debut album ‘WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?’ and dropping another dark indie track “Bury A Friend”. Today, Eilish revealed she will grace the cover of GARAGE MAGAZINE issue 16 in collaboration with Takashi Murakami.
Inspired by his self-portrait split, the cover sees Eilish in a sci-fi adaptation of the original artwork by Murakami himself. The Gen-Z viral indie prodigy joins a long line of cover artists including Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and artwork by Jeff Koons, discussing how she has “captured the imagination of her generation.”
The feature collaboration between Eilish and Murakami brings their friendship further into the spotlight, as Eilish is often decked in Takashi Murakami designs for the likes of Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton collection and ‘murakamipom’ pieces.
Despite this, styling for the cover feature takes a futuristic approach, deviating from Billie’s typical look. Browse the photoshoot here, and expect issue 16 of GARAGE MAGAZINE to hit newsstands on February 6.
In case you missed it, see Takashi Murakami sport his soon-coming collaboration with PORTER.
