Fresh off the Power 106 premiere of their new Elephants on Acid single “Crazy,” Cypress Hill have teamed up with director Jeremy Danger, visual effects artist Gavin Carlton and producer Deb Klein for the track’s official video. The vignette takes its concept from B-Real, who wanted to show two separate worlds and explore the idea of “alternate realities.”

“I don’t look to the outer world for answers, I just look to the inner world,” Cypress Hill’s sonic architect DJ Muggs tells us. “There’s two worlds going on at the same time – your outer world and your inner world. I don’t think enough people listen to themselves; you have all the answers you want. Everything you need, you already have, you just don’t know it yet.”

“Crazy” is a perfect representation of Cypress Hill’s goal with Elephants on Acid, which aims to create a unique, psychedelically-propelled aural universe that’s separate from modern trends.

“This record comes from the subconscious — the record is not a logical record. The title of the album comes from a dream I had,” Muggs adds. “Don’t try to look for logical answers in this record — everything’s really abstract and surreal. All the ideas came from that [dream]. I had a dream of all these different elephants with guns, walking through the desert, and when I made the music, it’s like some psycho-circus sh*t … the record has zero to do with anything going on in contemporary music, we created our own surreal world. The goal was to create our own world and bring you into our world for an hour.”

“I made about 80% of the beats for this album in 2013,” Muggs reveals, breaking down how Elephants on Acid came into being. “We recorded in 2014, and then we stopped recording for a few weeks because I got busy, B-Real started with Prophets of Rage and Sen started his new band. After that, we got back together and wrapped the record up in the last year. It was time to wake the dragon and reclaim our domain again.”

You can watch Cypress Hill’s new “Crazy” video above, while Elephants on Acid is scheduled to arrive on September 28.
