A pinnacle link to The Notorious B.I.G.‘s murder case has died today as Russell Poole, lead investigator of the infamous event, passed away of a heart attack Wednesday morning, according to Los Angeles Times. Poole headed the investigation into B.I.G.’s death in 1997 and was mainly known for accusing an L.A.P.D. officer for colluding with Suge Knight to carrying out the rapper’s murder. Poole supported the notion that the murder was a plot in reponse to the death of Tupac Shakur less than a year prior. According to Billboard, he retired from the LAPD in 1999 due to disagreements with the department and in 2011, told CNN that he thought certain leads into Biggie’s death had almost revealed the truth to the mystery, however, he was discouraged from following them. We send condolences to his loved ones at this time of difficulty; may he rest in peace.
