Obama Honors JAY Z For Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction
“I’ve been listening to JAY since I was a young and hungry state senator.”

In a video that aired at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony, President Barack Obama congratulates JAY Z for being the first-ever rap artist to be inducted. “I like to think Mr. Carter and I understand each other,” Obama shared. “Nobody who met us when we were younger men would have expected us to be where we are today. We both have wives who are significantly more popular than we are. [...] Like all of you, I am a fan, and I’ve been listening to Jay since I was a young and hungry state senator. I’m proud to help present this award to a true American original.” Watch the video below and check out JAY Z Twitter-thanking 90 rappers for inspiring him, including the likes of Kanye West, Drake, Kid Cudi, Travis Scott and Playboi Carti.
