Epic Games to Provide $100 Million USD in 'Fortnite' eSports Prize Money
Only slightly less than ‘Dota 2’s accumulative cash prizes since 2013.

Epic Games has announced the first year of competitive play for its hit Fortnite title will provide a $100 million USD prize pool, effectively making it one of esports highest paid cash prizes. Although it’s currently unknown if the Fortnite tournament will be scattered throughout the globe or a giant spectacle to take place in one giant circuit, the official competitions are slated to begin later this year.
According to a video game tournament prize pool tracker, the highly popular Dota 2 has only paid out slightly more than Fortnite‘s initial prize offering since 2013, offering a total of $140 million USD across 900 tournaments. It appears Fortnite‘s popularity is affording Epic the opportunity to dole out such large sums of money, as analysts estimate the title is making more than $1 million USD per day on mobile alone.
In related news, Fortnite: Battle Royale may be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
