adidas Football has unveiled the latest Manchester United kit. The items are made from Parley Ocean Plastic, expressing a move towards more eco-friendly production. The jersey design takes its inspirational cues from the 50th anniversary of Manchester United’s first European Cup win, which served as the first for an English team. Specifically, the navy blue piece is inspired by the “royal blue kit” donned by the United team that scored a victory in the 1968 European Cup Final.

“It’s great to be able to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Club’s first European Cup win,” says Richard Arnold, Director of Manchester United F.C. “This jersey represents an important moment for our club, and combines our record-breaking history – when we became the first English team to win the competition … adidas continues to demonstrate how forward thinking they are with its strategic partnership with Parley. We are all acutely aware of the threat of plastic to the environment and we are delighted to be able to raise further awareness with this recycled kit.”

“By working with Manchester United to create new, stunning jerseys made with Parley Ocean Plastic, we hope that we can highlight the issue of plastic damaging our oceans, and ultimately encourage and inspire football fans to join us in creating a better environment for everyone,” adds adidas Category Product Director Oliver Nicklisch.

You can take a look at the kit above, and head to adidas Football’s official website for more.

Earlier today, adidas Originals revived classic soccer jerseys for a Heritage World Cup collection.
