After a year apart, BEDWIN & THE HEARTBREAKERS rejoins Michael Carney for a collaborative drop; Best known as the art director for the Black Keys, Carney is also the brother of drummer Patrick Carney and creative director of Shady Character Eyewear. Centering around an event dubbed “ENTER THE VOID,” BEDWIN & THE HEARTBREAKERS is hosting a string of DJ sets, with Carney and Paris’s DJ Yellow scheduled to perform. To commemorate the night, the Japanese brand has created limited black & white tees emblazoned with artwork & text from the event flyer, which will accompany goods from Shady Character.
“ENTED THE VOID” goes down in Shibuya, Tokyo, on April 16.
Most recently, BEDWIN & THE HEARTBREAKERS debuted the lookbook for its slouchy Spring/Summer 2018 range.

Over the last year I have been working with @tommyogara on the creative direction for @shadycharactereyewear.official and the brand launch event is tonight @ronhermanstore in shibuya. This has been an incredible and exciting experience and I am excited to see the brand make its way out into the world. Shady Character was originally started in the late 70s in New York. The original brand worked directly with a legendary New York eyewear factory and made their frames using classic 1950s designs executed in wild colors and materials. The brand was embraced by the downtown music and art community because of its distorted take on the 1950s American sensibility. We have worked hard over the last year trying to create a visual identity and product range that is inspired by the original brand but appropriate for today. All of the illustrations were made by @aaronlangecomix who I went to art school with and is one of my favorite illustrators and story tellers. I made a series of posters for the launch that will be on display tonight in shibuya and tomorrow in Nagoya. There will be a launch event tomorrow in Nagoya at double Dutch. And in may we will have launch events in LA and New York.
