BBC Radio 1’s Head of Music Has Left for Spotify
The same person who said Apple was a “huge disruptive monster.”
BBC Radio 1‘s head of music, George Ergatoudis — who had once stated that Apple is a “huge disruptive monster,” has left the company to join Spotify. Ergatoudis has been part of the BBC team since 1997 and took the role of head of music in 2005. Now, 10 years later, he will be overseeing strategy for Spotify’s music curation and content programming in the UK. George shares in a statement:
“It’s been a privilege to have played a key part in the journey of the world’s greatest music radio station over the last 10 years. In that time, Radio 1 has successfully moved into a new era of visual and shareable content, helping to drive new young audiences to the BBC. Now I’m ready for the next chapter in my career as I take on responsibility for leading Spotify’s in-house music curation strategy and content programming for the UK. I can’t wait to get started.”
Ergatoudis is not the first key Radio 1 staff member to move to streaming services this year — back in February, Zane Lowe moved to Apple to host Beats 1 Radio.
