Red Bull Releases 'Major Force Be With You' Documentary
Featuring James Lavelle, Sk8thing, Hiroshi Fujiwara, NIGO and Shinsuke Takizawa.
Red Bull Japan has just released the full Major Force Be With You documentary. The documentary comes out just weeks after NEIGHBORHOOD’s Shinsuke Takizawa teased the video’s collaborative T-shirt. The 12-minute video sheds light on the Major Force collective, all while explaining their importance to Tokyo music scene during the ’80s, and then later to London in the early 90’s.
Although it was partying that initially connected the Major Force collective together, many of the individuals have adopted founding members Tycoon To$h and K.U.D.O’s affinity for counter-cultures — largely rooted in the punk and hip-hop music scene. As the majority of the creatives within the Major Force sphere moved into fashion, and started other side projects during the ’90s, the documentary goes on to interview the likes of Hiroshi Fujiwara, Sk8thing, NIGO, James Lavelle and Shinsuke Takizawa.
Watch the video above for a look at Major Force’s significance, not only in music, but for bringing together some of the biggest names today in Japanese street fashion. In other music news, Lil Wayne appears on ‘The Tonight Show’ to perform “Dedicate” off ‘Tha Carter V.’
