Cardi B Picks up Best New Hip-Hop Artist at 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards
Big win for the Bronx native.
Cardi B claimed the Best New Hip-Hop artist category at Tuesday nights 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards. The “Bodak Yellow” star saw off the likes of Aminé, Kodak Black, Playboi Carti and Tee Grizzley to collect her second award after winning Hustler of the Year earlier in the night. Cardi B thanked everyone when accepting the award but saved special mention for her boyfriend Offset, “This has been one of the greatest nights of my life but you, you’re going to make it better.”
The Bronx rapper is one of the industry’s hottest tickets right now and her hit single “Bodak Yellow” is now the longest-running No.1 solo female single in Hot 100 history — the song overtook Lauren Hill’s “Doo Wop” which had held the record since 1998. The 24-year-old’s track has already been certified platinum.
In other BET Award night news, Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. won Album of the Year.
