John Cale’s forthcoming album is heavily inspired by modern rap.

Speaking with Savages’ Jehnny Beth on her Beats 1 show Start Making Sense, the Velvet Underground founder John Cale revealed that he is working on a new album — and it’s heavily inspired by modern rap music. He discloses that he’s been “listening to all this hip-hop,” including music by Chance the Rapper, Donnie Trumpet, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, Mike WiLL Made-It, Domo Genesis and others. Cale says that his forthcoming album is set to arrive this spring. Listen to the conversation below.
