Panerai's New Watch Is "Dedicated to the Genius of Galileo Galilei"
The new L’Astronomo boasts moon phases and polarized crystals.
Taking cues from legendary Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei, the new Panerai L’Astronomo is the first of the brand’s watches to feature moon phase indication, incorporating Galileo’s celestial observations into a luxury wearable.
Dubbed the Luminor 1950 Tourbillon Moon Phases Equation of Time GMT 50mm, Panerai’s latest L’Astronomo is as inspired by Galileo’s scientific drawings as by the astronomer’s observations. On the rear of the watch, beneath embossed text reading “Tribute to Galileo Galilei,” is a small window featuring a stylistically rendered sun and moon, showing the phases of the moon alongside the placement of each heavenly body in the sky. Visible next to the small indictor and on the front of the watch, thanks to its skeletonized display, is a date display, situated underneath polarized crystal so as to be perfectly readable. Alongside its technical features, the watch is entirely customizable and made to order, making each one a unique work of art.
