Major Lazer Is the First Big U.S. Act to Perform in Cuba Since They Restored Diplomatic Ties
Very Diplo-matic indeed.

While most people would consider Major Lazer shows to be important in an of themselves, their upcoming free Cuba show is even more paramount. Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire’s upcoming performance will be the first show by a big U.S. act to take place in the country since the States and Cuba restored diplomatic ties with each other on July 20, 2015 (which had been severed in 1961 due to the Cold War). The Musicbana Foundation-presented show will occur on March 6 at the Tirbuna José Marti. Diplo shares in a press release:
“For as long as I can remember, Cuba has played an influential role on my love of music—Cuba has such a powerful cultural impact all over the world and for me, especially growing up in Florida, it became one of the biggest cultural centers for music to evolve from. Going back to perform in 2016 and to be a part of the culture once again is a huge blessing and I couldn’t be more honored to bring the Major Lazer project there.”
