This Woodland Abode Is a Serene Retreat Located on a Japanese Volcano

Mount Bandai in Fukushima, Japan is heralded as one of the most gorgeous mountains in the Land of the Rising Sun. Sitting on the footbed of the nearly 6,000-foot-high stratovolcano is a vacation house completely constructed out of harvested wood from the site’s surrounding trees. Design collective Life Style Koubou has created the woodland abode as part of its One Year Project. According to designboom, the home is a “two-part structure” that was erected using a stilt-system to help with occasional snowfall. Additionally, the establishment boasts a natural, outdoor bridge that “connects the ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ areas of the home, as only one part of the structure contains the rooms that require plumbing.”
