George Daniels Space Traveller Pocket Watch Sells for $4.3 Million USD
The historic timepiece has doubled in value in just five years.

Watches don’t often double in value in just five years’ time, but that’s exactly what the historic George Daniels Space Traveller has done. As HODINKEE points out, the pocket watch — which was crafted back in 1982 and last sold in 2012 — fetched £1,329,250 GBP (approximately $2,124,142 USD at the time) when it last hit the auction block.
Recently, the piece was put back on the market and vastly exceeded expectations when it sold today; while auctioneers predicted it would command somewhere between £1.2 and £1.8 million GBP, the Space Traveller went for a whopping £3,196,250 GBP (approximately $4.3 million USD).
So why exactly did the so-called “Double Daniels” go for such a high price? As Stephen Pulvirent explains, “with exchange rates in major flux over the last few years, and the British Pound being relatively weak globally, we’ve seen a major spike in watch buying in the UK in general, and it’s not crazy to think that this watch being sold in London could have done it some favors too.” Obviously, the watch’s slick design doesn’t hurt either.
