From unveiling new models of his collaborative Tennis Hu with adidas to helping tease the upcoming Anti Social Social Club x Cactus Plant Flea Market collection, it has been a busy couple of months for Pharrell Williams. While leaving his mark on the fashion world, Pharrell has been able to keep up with all of his musical endeavors, most recently helping Tyler, The Creator with his latest album, Flower BoyIn a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Pharrell opened up about both aspects of his life, giving readers an early look at when he first got into fashion. “My first fashion memory is not having [fashion],” says Pharrell. “But I had a wonderful childhood and I didn’t know the difference. Though who didn’t want an adidas tracksuit—especially when breaking and popping was becoming popular in our area.”

When asked about the status of his current wardrobe, Pharrell says it’s something that is constantly changing, with no article of clothing sticking around for too long. “The oldest thing in my closet is nothing special. I usually let things go once a year. You have to purge. Instead, I collect memories and experiences.”

Pharrell continues on to talk about a few figures he looks up to in fashion, more specifically from the big screen. “I really admire the style of Tilda Swinton. She’s just who she is, she’s personal. She understands her look, she understands her character. I also think Wes Anderson is good. His style is not for me but it’s great.” He goes on to say that his favorite movie wardrobe is from Inglorious Basterds, as well as some of the looks that Stanley Kubrick and the Coen Brothers put together.

Head over to the Wall Street Journal to check out the full interview. Be sure to also take a look at Swizz Beatz’s proposal for Pharrell and Kanye West to participate in a beat battle.
