Except it doesn’t smell like concrete at all.

COMME des GARÇONS‘ has introduced the latest addition to its premium line of fragrances called “Concrete.” The new scent is an homage to the city of New York, aptly referencing the “Concrete Jungle.” Surprisingly, however, the eau de parfum doesn’t smell like concrete at all. Christian Astuguevieille, creative director of Comme des Garçons Perfumes wanted to “astonish with a very hard bottle with concrete and inside with a softer scent,” he told WWD. The dominating note of the fragrance is in fact sandalwood.

To celebrate the new scent, CDG created an immersive experience in a Brooklyn warehouse that reflects three significant elements of concrete: destruction, construction, and creation. At the entrance, artist Calx Vive offered a visceral video presentation which showcased cement exploding into fragments. The center of the exhibit featured humongous scaffolding fitted with blinking bars of fluorescent lights. The most attention-grabbing part of the experience definitely goes to the circle of 10 spinning cement mixers which exuded cool smoke from dry ice.
