In 1992, UK-based design firm Architects of AIR created an inflatable walk-in sculpture called Luminarium that was made using only plastic sheeting and an air compressor. The monumental installation has been placed in 40 countries and continues to be a popular attraction as over two million people have interacted with the immersive creation. Inside the installation, there are a handful of tunnels as well as cavernous spaces that are illuminated with natural light.
Luminarium will be will be part of this summer’s Columbia Festival of the Arts starting June 16 in Columbia, Maryland. Peruse the photos above and find more information by visiting the festival’s official website.
