Three years ago, in a move to save its fading corporate image Microsoft unveiled its Windows 10 operating system along with a promising augmented reality headset, HoloLens. The HoloLens displayed a take on virtual reality that is still more advanced than what is currently on the market. With no wires, the headset boasted gesture and voice controls, along with the ability to augment the world around the wearer. But it seems that the price of the HoloLens headset, cost of paying a development team and complexity of engineering experiences has pushed developers away from consumer applications. Additionally, reports note that the $3,000 USD retail price would only drop when an upgraded HoloLens model was released. Though the virtual reality and augmented reality built around the HoloLens is progressing, which could mean the HoloLens could be fit for consumer applications in the future.
