World's Highest Paid Footballer, Carlos Tevez, Makes Awful Debut in China
First game and he got kicked out of the Asian Champions League.
Carlos Tevez finally made his Chinese Super League debut earlier today, and it was less than what was expected, to say the least. As we reported back in December, the former Premier League star inked a staggering £615,000 GBP (approximately $762,000 USD) a week two-year contract, making him the highest paid athlete in the world. He joined a growing collection of past-their-prime footballers who are choosing money over competition.
Tevez’s debut for Shanghai Shenhua was an important one, as the club faced Brisbane Roar for a place in the Asian Champions League. Unfortunately, the money didn’t pay off, as Carlos and squad were shut out 2-0, making Shenhua the first Chinese Super League team to lose an Asian Champions League playoff in 14 years, and in the first round no less.
To put Tevez’s contract in perspective, he makes more in a month than the entire Brisbane Roar team makes in a year.
