Yohji Yamamoto Given Design for Asia Lifetime Achievement Award
Celebrating the legend’s craftsmanship.

At the Design for Asia gala dinner held today in Hong Kong, Japanese fashion giant Yohji Yamamoto received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The 74-year-old designer has received multiple other accolades in previous years, including the Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters back in 2011 — the highest honor in arts and culture in France. Known for his avant-garde tailoring, notably in black, Yamamoto shares that this night held an extra special meaning to him. “In my long career, in design, architecture, [I’ve been to] so many parties, this is the very first time that I have such a warm feeling, I really appreciate this. Please let me become your family,” said the designer.
