Last Saturday, star soccer player Lionel Messi’s penalty for Barcelona marked his 54th goal of the year, positioning him one spot above Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Robert Lewandowski.

In a race for Europe’s top marksman of 2017, Messi’s lead can now only be thwarted by Tottenham’s Harry Kane, who currently ranks at 50 but still has two games remaining in the year. Additionally, all aforementioned players are shortlisted for the fans’ Team of the Year 2017 along with Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann, Paulo Dybala, Radamel Falcao, Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Dries Mertens.
