'Rick and Morty' Co-Creator Apologizes for Szechuan Sauce Debacle
“It’s just a f*cking dipping sauce.”
Going down as the hypest sauces McDonald’s has ever released, the Szechuan sauce — made famous by Adult Swim‘s Rick and Morty — continues to make headlines. Recently seeing a one day return, the McDonald’s Szechuan sauce caused a lot of fiasco when many fans were left empty-handed. But like many devoted followers… or unlike, fans threw tantrums demanding one of the novelty dipping sauces.
Recently being captured by TMZ at LAX Airport on Tuesday, co-creator of the series Justin Roiland recently apologized for inadvertently causing a frenzy inspired by a joke from an episode and for the fans who harassed McDonald’s employees demanding Szechuan sauce. “It’s absurd. It became a collector thing, and it’s just a f*cking dipping sauce, guys,” Roiland told TMZ. “I was bummed out, really, for the workers. The whole thing was bad on every side. I could see every side of it.”
The sauce premiered during Rick and Morty’s third season, in which Rick revealed his love for it, even admitting that a huge motivating factor in his existence is hoping to taste that sauce once again. Watch Roiland’s response above.
