Tom Dixon & Johnnie Walker Blue Label Introduce Special Capsule Series
Inspired by whiskey’s storied history.

British design icon Tom Dixon is no stranger to collaborations; as he previously released to us during this year’s Milan Design Week, collaborative efforts are “great for business” and an integral part of his craft. “We don’t depend on collaborations but they’re usually a strategic development to try to work out whether there’s a different way of doing things — it might be dipping our toe into a new category or working with a new manufacturer,” Dixon explained. “You have to spice things up and it’s always good to recontextualize yourself for yourself and your customers.” Staying true to that mindset, Dixon links up with Johnnie Walker Blue Label for his latest major partnership.
Delivered via a striking package that boasts such luxuries as a bespoke bottle, the special Johnnie Walker Blue Label Capsule Series by Tom Dixon is billed as having features that are “characteristic of Dixon’s contemporary designs” and is being promoted as a “deliberate nod to the art of whisky-making,” noting the copper accents of the physical presentation. Regarding inspiration, Johnnie Walker and Tom Dixon both looked to whiskey’s storied history for their creative cues.
“The copper stills, the oak barrels, the supreme expertise needed to produce a classic product — this was all instrumental to my thinking,” explains Dixon, recalling Johnnie Walker’s decorated past.”
“What Tom and I each do in our work starts with an idea and urge to create something meaningful,” reads an official quote from Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge. “The ‘ideas’ part is easy, the real challenge is in the trying and the relentless experimentation before, eventually, things begin to come together.”
You can take a look at the Tom Dixon-propelled Johnnie Walker Blue Label Capsule Series above, while the products themselves will be available at Lane Crawford this month and will fetch a retail price of around $300 USD per set.
Previously, Johnnie Walker introduced a limited edition Black Label for the campaign in support of Blade Runner 2049.
