A Nissan GT-R Was Fully Driven With Just a PS4 Controller
Created for the release of ‘Gran Turismo Sport.’
Nissan‘s new modified GT-R/C was created for the release of Gran Turismo Sport, and as such, can be driven with a PlayStation 4 controller. Winner of Nissan’s GT Academy, pro driver Jann Mardenborough took the modded car for a spin around Silverstone’s National Circuit from a helicopter hovering above. Jann was requested to be the first driver of the GT-R/C because of his peerless expertise in both gaming and real-life motorsport.
Four robots operate the steering, transmission, brakes, and throttle; while six computers at the back of the car look after the controls. On its fastest lap of 1:17:47, the GT-R/C averaged 76 mph (122 kph) and reached a top speed of 131 mph (211 kph). The vehicle also features two autonomous security systems on separate radio frequencies, which allows two operators to brake or cut the engine if needed.
